While reports in the Spanish press —mainly MARCA— published on Wednesday suggested that Real Madrid and Brazilian striker Vinicius Junior had all but reached an agreement over a contract extension, the player’s entourage told The Athletic that said new deal isn’t close just yet.
When contacted by The Athletic, Madrid explained that this was common knowledge and that the two parties have been negotiating for some time.
Yet the player’s entourage strongly deny that a new contract is close. Madrid were not keen to accept the contract proposal suggested by Vinicius Jr a few months ago but his camp say the club are yet to offer a revised one.

According to those close to the club, Real Madrid is aware that any proposal from Saudi Arabia could far exceed what Los Blancos are willing—or able—to match. The Brazilian forward, meanwhile, is seeking a new deal that would reflect his growing status in world football, reportedly in the region of €30 million per year.
While Vinicius remains committed to his current club and is keen to continue competing at the highest levels of European football, the financial gap between Madrid’s offer and what he could earn abroad presents a looming dilemma. Sources suggest that he understands a move to Saudi Arabia would diminish his global visibility and potentially derail his aspirations of becoming the best player in the world.
Still, without a competitive offer from Madrid, Vinicius may eventually be forced to weigh his options.
