“Changes” — 2pac

A Quick (but probably Not So Quick…Word). I’m not sure if I really need to type what I’m going to below, but realistically by the time my next + final DT week approaches…there may be a lot of changes at Real Madrid. There may be some changes here. But I’d rather type about this now so I don’t later…I already have my final week planned tbh anyway.

Carlo Out v Carlo In. As we continue down this winding road of opinions, I want to address something that I said either earlier this week or a week ago. I stated, to Diaz’ frustration, that “at this point anyone arguing for Carlo to stay at Madrid does not have the club’s best interest at heart” The statement was built up frustration on my part and likely an overreaction. However, as time has settled and passed by…I’m not sure that I actually disagree with my statement.

Now this is less because of who said what or when or some personal beef with MM posters. Trust, I don’t beef over Real Madrid opinions, my frustrations come towards posters’ actions or character (take whichever you find more personal lmao. Val forgive me for my sins.). This Carlo related statement as brash and cruel as it may appear comes from a love for the club. It also comes from perhaps my tolerance of uncertainty and my willingness to accept change.

Oddly enough, I can accept Xabi Alonso or a new manager failing. I can accept being wrong about Vini’s willingness to defend and watching Klopp motivate him to press a long with Mbappe. I can accept a Rodrygo sale for Wirtz. I can accept a myriad of uncertainties that may come to be in the following year at Real Madrid. Because at the very least we tried.

What I personally have always had difficulty with accepting is a comfor towards stagnation. I can’t bear to accept another season like this where not only does it seem like we continued fumbling towards our goals but it didn’t look like the board, coaching staff or players tried to remedy these issues. In October, I debated with Scottie how much time was too much time to wait for this team to click. In December, GFE proclaimed that Carlo team’s naturally clicked in February which is correct in most years. And in March, the team wasn’t clicking. It’s April and the team still isn’t clicking. The team still is making the same baffling personnel decisions where Carlo has unfortunately dug his own grave by not even attempting to try an academy player at RB. The team still isn’t properly defending or playing anything that differs from our psuedo 424. The team still hasn’t put in any semblance of consistent performances or developed build-up play besides hoof the ball forward and hope Jude collects the rebound or please Vini / Rodrygo dribble past 3-4 defenders. I’ve watched nearly 8 months of football and ‘I see no Changes” so why trust the same management again next year?

Why trust the same cast of players? Why trust the same manager who has committed the same mistakes? Why trust the same leadership that has acquired a brilliantly talented team but cannot lead them to beat the likes of Lille, Arsenal, Milan, Valencia or Real Betis. Why not just thrust ourselves into the uncertainty of new coaching oblivion and see if just a Hansi Flick is more than enough to push this supremely talented team over the brink?

This is where that statement comes from. It comes from what I’ve seen this year and a lack of faith in the norm and a lack of understanding of why anyone who has consistently watched what we have approve of this managerial year.

Anyway since ya’ll listen to Kiyan more than me:

“I’ve seen a lot of people (mostly non-Madridstas) who think that we’re crazy for wanting Carlo to leave because of how much he’s achieved and I think they just don’t watch Madrid every week like we do and they think we’re spoiled. This team does not need an overhaul. This team with this exact squad plus a new LB and a new RB and Dean plus someone who gets these elite player in their proper roles…this team is cooking. We need new defenders, a wingback and a new coach. That’s it.”

Rodrygo. Ninja asked me to mention Rodrygo in a DT amid his down performance this year. And I’m here to agree that Rodrygo (like everyone) has had a down year. He had an amazing month stint where he played LW with Mbappe and the team scored 3+ goals in each match, and he scored or assisted in each match, and we witnessed the best version of Mbappe that we’ve seen all year. However, shortly after Rodrygo only had glimpses of being “The R” and has primarily been a defensive occasional assist player. To many, this is not good enough for a Real Madrid RW and I tend to agree. We do need more goal contributions from him. We do need him more active in the final third. We do need him to have more scintillating performances because the talent is there. If our destiny is to continue with a 433, we need more from the RW.

Now, I could dive into boycott region topics but Tor3z isn’t here and won’t be due to personal reasons so it’s not worthwhile to as m_baraza said “have that uncomfortable convo.” So I’m not going to note when the team has had its best performances or whether the team can sustain two forwards who choose not to defend. I won’t mention how January stats showcased that Rodrygo’s G/A per 90 nearly doubles when he plays on the LW (thus w/o Vini) or how it may behoove us to imagine a world where we double the current 23 goal contributions player’s output while understanding that he is willing to sacrifice his body to do the required dirty work. I won’t mention who seems to be the ONLY player at Real Madrid playing in their ideal circumstances or role but has underwhelmed. And I’m not going to go on a diatribe about complimentary pieces or who’s play styles seem to welcome collective action and which are just simply individually brilliant. I’ll just wait the same way I waited when many wanted Benz replaced for Lewa or Ceballos playing in La Segunda. I’ll wait. Rodrygo (our most versatile forward) may get sold while I wait..and as I said before I’m comfortable with that. But let’s just see how these 3 LWs play out.

Actually all I’ll mention right now is: do you want a collection of individuals or a team?

Anyway, I’m expecting a more balanced approach in tomorrow’s game with Mbappe suspended and likely a lineup that resembles last season.

Influence. As I take my final time to address Ninja pretty quickly. before I disappear again. All i ask today is now for him to address claims about Juninho influence. Men lie, women lie, numbers don’t. And still today’s DT to go.
