Former Liverpool player was not surprised by how good Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has become in a short space of time, he revealed while speaking to Rio Ferdinand on his channel.
Alonso has been a good addition to Real Madrid, winning all but one of his games this season, while also seeing his team top the standings in the league.
Having played with Alonso at Liverpool, Gerrard only had good things to say about the Spanish manager.
He said: “I’m not surprised by his rise and where he’s at because as a player, he was a student of the game.
“Very clever, spoke sense, understood the game, all facets of the game, in and out of possession. It was like playing with a coach when you played with him.
“You can listen to him all day long. I’m delighted for him. As a human being, he’s top, as a player, top. I’m sure if he continues this way, he’ll be a top manager.
“He already proved it in a short space of time, he’s been really good.”
Alonso will face his former team soon, as Real Madrid are due to play Liverpool at Anfield on November 4.
