The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to d all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name! Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, Felipejack, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Kung_Fu_Zizou

No.. Not Carlo. He’s still leaving. There’s just been too many leaks too quickly in real time. Hopefully there are actually cool heads behind the scenes.
JUST IN: The feeling remains that Carlo Ancelotti & Real Madrid will PART WAYS.
But, both sides still need to fix the exit terms. @FabrizioRomano pic.twitter.com/LVbjRQcDfk

Real Madrid are probably due a “big” departure as is custom every two or three seasons at the Bernabeu. The speculation is that depending on whether or not Vinicius signs a new deal, on of the Brazilian wingers will set sail, away from Charmatin.

Se Queda!
WOE IS ME
Real Madrid’s defenders have suffered 55 injuries in the last 3 seasons alone.
Alaba: 7 injuries, 520 days out
Militão: 6 injuries, 444 days out
Mendy: 9 injuries, 348 days out
Carvajal: 8 injuries, 294 days out
Rüdiger: 6 injuries, 122 days out
Lucas: 7… pic.twitter.com/mtkgwIuxSU— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) April 30, 2025
The injuries keep piling up and between them, Flo and Ancelotti have managed to facilitate the state of affairs. It becomes clearer everyday that Real Madrid need an overhaul of the defence. The combination of poor form exacerbated by consistent absences forces the club to reckon with reality.
I might add.. The likes of Lucas Vazquez being rewarded for long service may be sweet but it also means we’re likely to suffer the inability of acquiring an immediate replacement. The opportunity cost of renewing Vazquez and Mendy gets higher everyday.

Rudiger and Alaba were gambles on free agents in the latter parts of their careers. Alaba was already injury prone, as was Ferland Mendy. The gamble worked out but now we’re refusing to cashout.. Insisting on playing until we lose the house.
Silly Season
Xabi Alonso has 3 targets in sight: Martín Zubimendi, Florian Wirtz & Jonathan Tah. @diarioas pic.twitter.com/MgULVD2JIW

There’s little doubt Flo will love the idea of a free agent CB joining again. So far the CBs like Saliba and Huijsen have the annoying impediment of a fee. That inconvenience of having to pay for a defender after signing Alaba and Rudiger for free seems to irk the Real Madrid supremo.
Tah is a decent player. I would have never put him on a list to be a starting CB at Real Madrid. Yet.. Here we are.
Wirtz is exactly the kind of player Flo loves to spend money on and again, he and Xabi will likely find common ground. The snag will be Zubimendi.. Perhaps a welcome gift for old Red Beard?
