Full match player ratings below:

Thibaut Courtois—7: Only had to make one save on the night with Athletic defending mostly in a low block with many rotations after their Thursday Europa League game.

Fede Valverde—8.5: Never gives up, and his 92nd-minute goal personified his spirit—willed that goal into existence and tested Unai Simon twice just before that moment.

Raul Asencio—7: Left to defend 1v1 on many occasions and held his own. Drew the applause of the Santiago Bernabeu early in the game following a perfect slide tackle.

Toni Rudiger—7: Back to his solid best tonight, maintaining a high line and giving Athletic Bilbao no breathing room.

Eduardo Camavinga—8: A joy to watch at left-back—countless overlapping and underlapping runs, shoulder feints, and backheels to evade the opposition press, along with 50-yard ball-carrying runs that ended with a shot on goal.

Tchouameni—8: Continues his fine run of form in the second half of the season. Quickly made amends for the few mistakes he made by working back and winning the ball. Showed off his passing range with a Luka Modric-like outside-of-the-boot pass to Jude Bellingham in the box.

Dani Ceballos—6: Getting back into rhythm with his first start since the injury against Real Sociedad.

Luka Modric—7: Started in the middle of the park, playing 78 minutes and providing five key passes.

Jude Bellingham—5: Back at the tip of the diamond but also played as a false nine in the first 45 minutes. Missed a couple of golden opportunities inside the box with Athletic defenders throwing their bodies in front of the shots.

Vinicius Junior—8.5: Scored a goal that was disallowed for a semi-automated offside call on Endrick. Back to his best tonight—relentless and fearless. Produced six key passes, five completed dribbles, and four shots.

Rodrygo—6: Played glued to the right wing in the first 45 minutes without many options to connect play. Moved more centrally in the second half and helped the team open up the game.

Substitutions:

Endrick—6: Chaotic, fearless fireball as always. Attempted a completely unnecessary bicycle kick early on but, more importantly, gave the Athletic central defenders a presence to worry about.

Arda Guler—6: Had the opportunity to play deep in central midfield while the team looked for every avenue to score a goal. Produced one key pass and completed 2/2 long balls.

Brahim Diaz—6: Played the last 12 minutes for Rodrygo and was involved in the build-up for the game-winner.

Lucas Vazquez—N/A: Late substitution for Raul Asencio, who was on a yellow and often left playing 1v1 at the back
