A sad edition of the daily merengue

The Daily Merengue is a place where you can feel free to d all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name! Shoutout to the mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, Kung_Fu_Zizou, Juninho, NeRObutBlanco and yours truly, Felipejack

PSG is the team to be beaten

That was my thinking before the CWC started. It’s still true today, unfortunately. They are in the finals, as the biggest favorite.

We did not even compete in yesterday’s game. It looks like Xabi has a lot of work to do to make this set of players to play better as a team.

Some things worried me… I had the impression that Vini’s press is worse when Mbappe is on the team, as he is looking Mbappe is not pressing properly. And when things are going wrong out there, each one of Vini, Mbappe and Jude try to solve things by themselves alone.

What we can say about Rudiger and Asencio? To be honest, Rudiger worries me the most. Asencio is young, he is not considered to be one a top CB…there is time for him to learn, change and improve. Rudiger’s form, however, is bad for some time. Last season, he was run into the ground by Carlo and suffered an knee injury. In addition, he is also 32 years old. It’s just bizarre to have watched Militao, who hasn’t played over 8 months, playing better than both – he maybe was the best of the team. What worries the most is: can Rüdiger return to a good, consistent and reliable level?

Sad this is how the last Modric’s game turned to be. He did not deserve this.

Davide Ancelotti is Botafogo’s new manager

Botafogo approached CBF with the interest of signing Davide as their new head coach. Interestingly, they have reached an agreement so Davide will join his father coaching staff during 2026 World Cup.

I’m curious regarding what will be Davide’s style of playing. In interviews, he said he would like his team to be vertical.
