Another former youth product look set to make the move across town to Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Atletico Madrid has reached a verbal agreement with Miguel Gutiérrez, with the Girona left-back open to making the controversial switch across the Spanish capital. While Real Madrid holds a buy-back option on the 22-year-old, the club has no intention of activating it this summer, according to a report from Sergio Valentin of Libertad Digital and Radio MARCA.

Instead, the expectation is that Girona will handle the transfer directly, with Real Madrid entitled to a percentage of the sale—believed to be around 50%—from any future deal.

Gutiérrez, who has developed into one of LaLiga’s most consistent left-backs at Girona, was a product of La Fábrica and spent time in Madrid’s first team under Zidane and Ancelotti before his 2022 move.

Miguel has unqiue qualities from the left back position, often seen as more of a playmaker rathen than a outright defender, and has featured heavily as a left winger this season. Madrid appears to be exploring other long-term options at the position. Among those being considered are Ajax’s 18-year-old Jorrel Hato, a versatile left-footed defender who can also play center back, and Benfica’s Álvaro Carreras, who left Real Madrid’s academy to join Manchester United as a teenager.
