Real Madrid and Benfica have not reached an agreement yet.

Real Madrid and Benfica are still negotiating the details of their deal for Spanish defender Alvaro Carreras, who in the meantime will fly to the United States with the Portuguese squad this Sunday. Both clubs were expected to finalize the transfer this past week but negotiations stalled as they failed to reach an agreement on the distribution of Carreras’ €50 million release clause, club sources told Managing Madrid.

Either way, Real Madrid are confident that they will sign Carreras ahead of the June 10th deadline set for clubs participating in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, per those same sources.

As of right now, the left-back spot is the main weakness in Real Madrid’s roster. With Ferland Mendy still injured and Fran Garcia as the only viable option for said spot, Los Blancos are pushing to complete a move for Carreras, one which would allow the Spanish defender to play for Real Madrid during the tournament, improving significantly their depth and quality at the left-back position.
