“What is being done to Ancelotti is an injustice and a lack of respect for all the titles he has won with Real Madrid,”

At the Laureus Awards Gala held today, former Real Madrid manager Fabio Capello spoke to media on the red carpet with his candid takes on the current state of the club. Appearing on MARCATV and speaking to various media outlets, Capello didn’t hold back when discussing the pressure surrounding Carlo Ancelotti, the looming presence of Xabi Alonso, and the challenges faced by Kylian Mbappé in his debut season at the Bernabéu.

“I’m an Ancelotista,” Capello declared. “What is being done to Ancelotti is an injustice and a lack of respect for all the titles he has won with Real Madrid,”

Capello also addressed Madrid’s recent Champions League exit to Arsenal, specifically the lackluster second leg at the Bernabéu. “Madrid wasn’t the Madrid everyone thought they would be,” he said. “They didn’t play with the same desire and quality that you normally need when you have to come back from behind.”

On Kylian Mbappé, whose adaptation to life in white has been anything but smooth, Capello said: “The Real Madrid shirt weighs heavily, and it weighs a lot. Perhaps it’s been difficult for him to understand where he’s gone to play. The problem is that he’s not a center forward and he and Vinicius have to play together.

“Everyone thought that Madrid would be cruising along with Mbappé, Vinicius, and Bellingham. This year they have to win the Cup. This year they have to win something.”
