Getafe boss reacts after narrow 1-0 loss to Real Madrid
In the aftermath of Getafe’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Real Madrid on Wednesday night, manager José Bordalás spoke to the media in the press room.
Despite the result, Bordalás firmly believed his team earned more than what the scoreline suggested.
“In football, the truth is that merits aren’t objective, they’re the results, which were adverse,” he said. “The team deserved to at least get a draw. We stood up to a team like Real Madrid. It’s a shame we weren’t sharp. “Players who participated with an injury, like Luis Milla, should be given a monument.”
The manager acknowledged recent struggles, citing inconsistency and discomfort with tactical shifts as the team tried to adapt.
“We’ve been struggling in recent matches, we’ve lacked consistency. We wanted to adjust against an opponent of Real Madrid’s caliber and from there grow as a team. Everything has changed, we made a tactical change but the team wasn’t comfortable. The team improved with the changes, they tried, I have to congratulate them. The team has shown up.“We’ve been dragging a problem since preseason… In midfield, we only have Mauro and Luis; they’re exhausted. Luis Milla has had to play through injury, and the only replacement is Yellu, who was playing in the Second Division; he needs experience.”
The Getafe manager also shared a moment of mutual respect with his counterpart, Carlo Ancelotti.
“Ancelotti and I have been talking. They’ve had problems, but they have different objectives… He values what Getafe is doing with the weapons we have and the problems from the start. I also recognize the problems they’ve had, which, as I said before, are forgotten, with injuries like Carvajal’s. Madrid has had many defensive problems.”
