Ahead of Getafe’s daunting matchup against Real Madrid tomorrow, José Bordalás, in the pre-game press conference, faced the media acknowledging the challenge his team is up against.
“It’s Never a Good Time to Face Real Madrid”
“I always say it’s never a good time to face Real Madrid. They’re one of the best teams in the world and are still in the game in two competitions,” he said. “They haven’t stopped winning titles, with one of the best squads in the world. It’s never a good time; we know the difficulties. The difference is huge in everything.”
Missing Key Players, But Focused on Who’s Available
Getafe will be without Nyom, Diego Rico, and Uche due to suspension.
“We’re not looking at the absences, we’re looking at the players we have,” he emphasized. “We have to give a fabulous performance, we have to be at 110%.”
He also confirmed that Borja Mayoral is still not fully fit, saying the striker is being “introduced when we consider it necessary.”
“We Always Approach Matches to Win”
“We would have liked better results at home, although we were hampered in some, like the last one,” he admitted. “We have to be aware that we’re a small club that has struggled from the start. We have to demonstrate, maintain, and defend that value every game, starting tomorrow.”
Bordalás stressed the need for near-perfection against a team of Real Madrid’s caliber: “It’s important not to make mistakes, to be extremely attentive, to have help—everything that a match of this level requires.”
On Mbappé, Real Madrid’s Depth, and Carlo Ancelotti
When asked about Kylian Mbappé’s absence, Bordalás expressed admiration for the Frenchman but emphasized that Madrid’s strength lies in its depth.
“Mbappé is a magnificent player, he’s world-class… but Madrid has enough squad to cover for anyone. Real Madrid’s attackers are all very good. Any of them would do.”
The Getafe boss also came to the defense of Carlo Ancelotti, who has faced criticism at times this season despite his previous success.
“There’s no debate about Carlo; he’s the coach Real Madrid have, the best right now,” Bordalás said. “What Carlo has achieved is very difficult for anyone to repeat.”
Confident, But Realistic
Despite the odds, Bordalás insists his team is up for the challenge.
“We’ve worked well; the team is confident, eager, and excited. We’ve faced demanding matches; we’re confident the team can deliver tomorrow.”
