Arda Güler’s Türkiye suffers devastating 6-0 loss to Spain

Real Madrid midfielder Arda Güler could only watch and try in Türkiye’s 6-0 loss to Spain in the World Cup qualifiers match in Konya on Sunday night.

Güler struggled with Spain’s pace, although he did try to be one of their few bright spots, playing in that attacking midfield role that has seen good performances from the Real Madrid man in the past.

However, a hat-trick from Mikel Merino, a brace from Pedri, and a goal from Ferran Torres ensured that whatever Güler did went in vain, as the second game in the World Cup qualifiers gave Türkiye their first loss.

It was far from Güler’s best, but still better than most of his teammates on a humiliating night for Türkiye. He registered 81 touches, 57 passes (with an 87.7% completion rate), one key pass, four shots, one dribble, two interceptions and five crosses — although those crosses largely found Spanish shirts.

Güler will now return to Madrid, thankfully without any injuries to worry about and prepare for the next few matches with Los Blancos.
