The coach spoke after the 2-0 win over Sevilla
Speaking after his last away game as Real Madrid coach, a 2-0 away win against nine-man Sevilla, Carlo Ancelotti spoke on one of the hot topics at the club, the future of captain Luka Modrić. “Everyone knows how much Real Madrid loves Modrić,” he said. “They will have the time to make the right decision. For the club. For him. For the future.”
Ancelotti on preparing for this game with so many player out
“We wanted to get the three points. And there was a risk. It was a difficult match to handle because of the atmosphere and the two red cards, which meant it wasn’t very intense. We could have played better… but when the team had the upper hand we didn’t need to make too much of an effort.”
Ancelotti on what youth players need to do to stay in the first team
“There are very good examples. Carvajal, Nacho, Lucas… You have to fight, struggle and have the dream. Those who have been here this year have done very well. Asencio, first, has played a lot. And the others, Gonzalo, Víctor, Jacobo, have done very well. They are very close to helping, to contribute to the first team. Raúl has had a difficult season, like me. And I’ve managed to improve the team and get the youngsters to play.”
Ancelotti on Jacobo Ramón
“The fact that we had a man advantage, those at the back haven’t had to work very hard. He is a player at the same level as Raúl. We consider him at the same level as Asencio. He had a long injury, but since January he has been doing well. He has everything to be a player of Real Madrid. He’s a bit shy and that’s why we think he hasn’t shown all his qualities. He is tall, strong, he has a way to get the ball out. He is quite shy and needs time, but he can be in the squad of Madrid in the future.”
