A Quick Juninho Edition of the Daily Merengue
Words From The Author:
This is just a quick Juni filler episode because the MM mods look out for each other. Despite the fact that KFZ hates Rodrygo, Val was alarmingly #CarloIn for too long, Nero rarely posts comments, and Felipe at times forgets to refer to me as the GOAT of Mods, we stick together.
Anyway as always — Wolves only.
Welcome to The Daily Merengue — a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!
Shoutout to the Mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, KungFuZizou, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, and Juninho (the “The Greatest of Mods”).
Xabi This. Xabi That.
Bienvenido Xabi. Marca is getting the party started and announcing that the club has agreed to a deal with Xabi Alonso. IMO, Marca is just getting ahead of the influx of news that will likely follow Xabi’s next press conference or so. I personally expect Bayer to announce Xabi leaving prior to Madrid announcing him coming and Bayer’s season is virtually over. Xabi may be polite and not mention anything on Saturday being that we play El Clasico the next day but who knows. Anyway, this is inevitable sooo get ready.

Signings. Accompanying this news will of course be an influx of key words such as “revolution,” “overhaul,” “Rodrygo sale,” and potential transfers. From my understanding, the club is working on signings but for the most part they will be minor. Similar to Kiyan, the club seems to think that the team only needs a small amount of tweaks in order to field a CL competitive team and that is a CB, a LB, and a midfielder (likely to replace Luka Modric). Just small names that I’ve mentioned that I’m hearing as more realistic signings — Carreras, Konate (!!!), and maybe Dean. There’s no verifiable news about any midfield signings but we’ll just have to wait and see what happens there.
There’s also extremely unverifiable news of a big ST purchase accompanied by at least one large scale sale. But I’m waiting for just more information. Stay tuned.
Anyway, my real advice is to wait until Xabi is actually in the building to trust any of these current rumors (meaning players leaving + incoming players). Yes, the club will play a heavy part in our transfer policy but Xabi likely will have some influence on what’s desperately needed and who needs to stay.
BREAKING: Real Madrid’s plan in the transfer window has been approved by Xabi Alonso:
– Trent Alexander-Arnold: done deal.
– LB signing: work is being done.
– CB signing: Dean Huijsen is the main target.
– Midfield signing.@marca pic.twitter.com/lXw7srsMbe— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) May 9, 2025
BREAKING: Real Madrid have informed Xabi Alonso that the signings they make are decided by the club, not the coach, and he has accepted it. @marca pic.twitter.com/b2158ZSJct

Tactics. It’ll be extremely interesting to figure out our tactical roles + play next year. Will we field a back 3? Will Jude play deeper in the midfield? Will Arda start? Will we play with a 442 variation or 433? Rodrygo as a 10? Vini at RW? Kylian at LW? There’s a fair share of uncertainty. There’s a chance of failure. But it’s exciting to finally move towards (hopefully) real change, new faces, and new ideas. For better or worse.
