Bayer Leverkusen CEO Fernando Carro talked to the press ahead of the Laureus Awards and delivered some interesting quotes when asked about Xabi Alonso, who has been on Real Madrid’s radar for quite a while and appears to be leading the race to replace Carlo Ancelotti this summer.
“We have a gentleman’s agreement that if any of the teams he has played for (Real Sociedad, Liverpool, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich) comes for him, we would sit down to talk and would not put any obstacles in his way,” said Carro.
“We are a very professional club and we have to be prepared for anything. If in the end there were interest from another club and he was interested in going to that club, we have a relationship where we would have to talk about it. It is not our wish, but with him we are clear. The decision has to be made in the next three or four weeks, not much later. Right now there’s nothing, but in the next three or four weeks we’ll know if there’s any tectonic shift in the club,” he added.
All things considered, it looks like Alonso’s chances of becoming Real Madrid’s coach are quite high, assuming that Los Blancos will sack Carlo Ancelotti by the end of the season.
