The defender will become a Real Madrid player ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup, according to MARCA.

Real Madrid and Benfica are set to finalize the details of their deal for left-back Alvaro Carreras, who will become a Real Madrid player ahead of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, according to a report published on MARCA.

Although Real Madrid was negotiating with Benfica in order to decrease the €50 million fee on Carreras’ release clause with the Portuguese club, Los Blancos will end up triggering said clause, even if they might be allowed to complete the payment in two or three installments, per that same report.

Either way, the deal for Carreras is expected to become official over the next few days. The defender will likely start on the left side of Real Madrid’s defensive line during the tournament, given that the entire roster will be learning a new system and new tactical principles under coach Xabi Alonso, who will be making his debut as Real Madrid’s coach in the Club World Cup.
