Immediate Reaction: Real Madrid 5-1 Real Betis; Liga F 2024/2025

Another April goleada. Another Bruun brace.

Real Madrid beat Real Betis with the result 5-1 on matchday 26 of Liga F. Below are my thoughts and views on the match.

Misa started in goal. Olga and Antonia started on fullbacks, with Lakrar and Méndez as the centerback duo joining them in the defense. Angeldal and Weir started in midfield, with Athenea and Linda on the wings, while Feller and Bruun led the line.

It was mostly a 4-4-2 with Feller and Athenea switching positions at times, especially during brief moments of high press when Athenea would join Bruun to put the pressure on the Betis defense. It wasn’t difficult to break the control in their defensive line as Betis’s defense was quite prone to mistakes.

Real Madrid controlled the game from the start. It took around 5 minutes for Las Blancas to figure out verdiblancas and run into their penalty area. In 5’, Angeldahl took a shot right from the edge of the box which was the first chance of the game and Vizoso denied. Only three minutes later, Madrid opened up the scoresheet with a penalty given away by Dorine for a foul on Feller. An interesting occurrence in that penalty shoot was that Caroline Weir stepped up to shoot from 11 meters with the captain Olga Carmona on the pitch. From then on, both teams shot up their ammunition in the first half, all 6 goals being scored in the first 45 minutes.

The lack of goals in the second half was both due to the fact that Real Madrid wound down a bit after scoring 5 in the first half and due to some unlucky problems in finishing.

• 9‘: GOAL (1-0) by Caroline Weir: The Scot converted the penalty provoked by Naomie Feller.

• 24‘: GOAL (2-0) by Signe Bruun: A precise cross from the left side by Olga found Bruun’s head for her to double the lead 15 minutes after the first one.

• 28‘: GOAL (3-0) by María Mendéz: the corner taken by Weir found Lakrar on the far post who then headed it forward to Mendéz to head it in.

• 37‘: GOAL (4-0) by Filippa Angeldahl: After a giveaway from the Betis defense, Angeldahl walked in with the ball and shot twice, her first shot getting denied by Vizoso but then she managed to put the rebound in.

• 40’: GOAL (5-0) by Signe Bruun: Another giveaway from Betis that was quickly converted by Bruun. Angeldahl picked up an assist where she was the one to intercept Betis’s pass and send it forward to the Dane who took a long shot and scored.

• 44’: GOAL (5-1) by Yasmine Zouhir: The Moroccan attacker took advantage of Misa’s mistake in the box and inability to get to the ball. Betis got a consolation goal just before the halftime.
