BUSINESS & FOOTBALL

We’re in the business half of the season, so let’s talk business…

Remember the years when we weren’t winning much with Prime CR7 and co? yea, but we were topping all the earnings charts from Forbes to Deloitte with astronomical income and sponsorship deals and debt pay-off. Wining 1 trophy a year at the height of our sporting prowess. Until Carlo/Zidane era began and the trophies multiplied in record fashion. There now was a healthy balance between footballing/sporting success and monetary/business success. It’s clear that we do better/consistent business than we do better/consistent football, by evidence of in-between surmounting trophy-less years on the pitch but financial winnings and glory off the pitch that resulted in record earnings for the club. Last year, we didn’t win anything on the pitch, but our club made a billion euros in revenue. We made more money than ever, not winning a single trophy. The money in football has vastly increased for sure, but so has it’s importance against trophies. As a fan, You’d think trophies = More Financial success??? yeaa not in today’s world, friend. Maybe a long time ago it used to be like that, but not today. Not anymore. Today, other avenues of wealth that aren’t affected by the scoreline on the pitch have been created and maximized. So we’ll continue being rich forever off the court, even if we never win another trophy again and can no longer “compete” with oil owners. Oil clubs have now greased the holy grail of club footballing competitions, THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. Further proving that you don’t need an organic route to sporting victory anymore. You Just need enough money. Maybe add some damn good business to it too. PSG & MAN CITY are now top 5 highest earning clubs in world football. Winning trebles on the pitch and generating mass revenue off it. And they did it in record time. Say what you want about them but we too are also swimming in money to the point where we can break record transfers whenever we want to. The importance of business in football cannot be understated. If you get it right, your club can afford to go a year or 2 without winning anything on the pitch. Only the fans will be upset…

WINNING! WINNING! WINNING!

So when you hear that our club is all about “Winning”, as a fan, you should ask yourself a question of huge importance to your reality and rationale. What kind of “winning” are they talking about? Off the pitch or on the pitch? we need balance. Sustained balance, not the extremities we’ve been subject to for decades. We have a clear plan, system and efficient execution in place for the prosperity and posterity of the club off the pitch, but never one for the team. It usually boils down to the managers ability to make due with the squad he has been given, otherwise we’re in for a terrible ride to hell…again. All our sporting problems aren’t impossible to avoid, our board just chooses to ignore it, till it gets really bad.

Meanwhile for our counterparts in Catalonia, they do better football than they do business. Rocked with mega financial scandal after scandal and sporting corruption case, but still winning trophies in the wake of their mess. I wouldn’t choose their path because it requires them to sacrifice the careers of any of their successful children to stay afloat. and they’re still struggling to manage financially. Still able to pull big names but owing many players in the process and crashing deficits. The writing has been on the wall for them.
