Welcome to The Daily Merengue — a place where you can feel free to discuss all things football. Do not be alarmed by the overt RMCF bias. It’s in the name!

Shoutout to the Mods who do a fantastic job, Valyrian Steel, Ezek XI, KungFuZizou, NeRObutBlanco, Felipejack, and Juninho.

FEDE

Some years ago, his limitations as a player were brought up. But quickly shutdown. Because he was thriving and winning trophies in a system that masked his limitations as a midfielder and didn’t require him to do more than the defensive “dirty work” and standard passing of the ball to the next man. But to my great amazement, instead, he was praised and somehow lauded as “The Next freaking Toni Kroos”….how that comparison was put together with the left and right side of people’s brains…i’m yet to understand. As these 2 players have incredibly separate identities and qualities. For one, Toni Kroos is slow and a master passer of the ball and director of play/tempo, 3 of many things Fede, at 27 yrs of age, IS NOT. But you’d think that the fact that not only one, but 2 different coaches, have seen him as nothing more than a fast paced, high-energy workhorse Jack of all trades that can do a good job in any position you put him in, but nothing out of the ordinary. Which has been great in most cases. As evidenced in both managers swiftness to constantly move him out of midfield to go play for long in those other areas of need. That should tell you, the fan, something. But we’re still not getting it….instead, we’re still blindly and foolishly calling him the next toni kroos??? If he was The Next Toni Kroos, even with the absurd amount of injuries our team has faced, he still would have been an im-moveable piece in midfield by now. But that’s not been the case.

TRENT=AESTHETICS

My goodness, we can’t have a player with the crossing and accurate ball placing prowess of trent and not have attacking players with consistent aerial prowess. His crosses are delicious and he does it at will too!!! oooo aesthetic football indeed.
