The derby that had it all.

Real Madrid won — against Madrid CFF on matchday 27 of Liga F. Below are my thoughts and views on the match.

Misa started in goal. Antonia and Yasmim started as fullbacks. This was Shei’s 4th in a game starting on the bench after having been rotated the entire season on the right back. Lakrar and Méndez were the centerbacks. Toletti and Angeldahl were the pivot duo, with Weir as #10 in the front four with Feller and Athenea on the wings and Redondo leading the line. Madrid CFF were in a 4-4-2 with Nautnes and Andonova leading the line.

Real Madrid started strong by creating a chance in the first 15 seconds. It was Weir who dribbled through Madrid’s defense and ended up passing to Athenea in center of the box who didn’t manage a clear shot. Always good to see a strong start to a derby. This was an introduction to how the first half went on. Las Blancas dominated the first 45 minutes, although having conceded in the last 5 minutes for 2-1. This was a start of numerous defensive mistakes that followed from Real Madrid.

Redondo scored her second goal 2 minutes into the second half to return the difference to +2. However, only 7 minutes later Madrid CFF leveled it thanks to two back-to-back defensive mistakes. The defensive mistakes kept piling up on both sides, the only difference was that Real Madrid was more efficient in their shots. However, Las Blancas made lots of unnecessary passes in the defensive line that resulted in dangerous actions by Madrid CFF. The score stayed 3-3 until 83rd minute when Villafañe pushed the ball into her own net, but that wasn’t enough for real Madrid as they went on to score 3 more until the final whistle after 8 added minutes.

  • 15’: GOAL (1-0) by Alba Redondo: Insane maneuver by Athenea on the touchline to keep it inside. She turned and passed it to Redondo who waited at the near post to put it in.

  • 24’: GOAL (2-0) by Filippa Angledahl: No other words than what a strike! But for Angeldahl it’s just another Friday night.

  • 41’: GOAL (2-1) by Emilie Nautnes: A series of shaky touches and passes inside own penalty area preceded Nautnes stealing the ball and shooting it in.

  • 47’: GOAL (3-1) by Alba Redondo: Naomie Feller recovered the ball after a short press and kicked it to Redondo who sent it into the lower left corner.

  • 52’: GOAL (3-2) by Emilie Nautnes: A horrifically bad first touch by Méndez opened up a chance for Nautnes which she gladly took advantage of.

  • 53’: GOAL (3-3) by Nataša Andonova: Another bad touch by Méndez only a minute later and failure to mark the player resulted in Andonova leveling the result for a little while.

83’: GOAL (4-3): It was an own goal by Sandra Villafañe from a chaotic series of events following a freekick from Las Blancas.

  • 87’: GOAL (5-3) by Caroline Weir: A solo goal with a recovery at the edge of Madrid’s penalty area followed by Weir’s flawless finishing sealed the deal.

  • 90’: GOAL (6-3) by Filippa Angeldahl: Another golazo from the Swede after which the crowd started chanting “MVP! MVP!”. Angeldahl did end up getting the official match MVP.

  • 90+6’: GOAL (7-3) by Linda Caicedo: The Colombian put a cherry on top with a mesmerizing solo action to seal the scoresheet.

Three points in a dramatic end to a derby to close out April and confirm the second place on the table. A derby that had it all, including 4 goals after 80th minute! Pod coming shortly.
