He spoke as he prepares for a return after eight months out
Real Madrid right-back Dani Carvajal spoke to the media on Monday, ahead of the team’s game against Juventus, as he ups his return from injury after being sidelined since October 2024. Speaking about his new role returning to the team after a long-term knee issue, he spoke about his openness to be flexible in the new system.
“We’re seeing a lot of changes with Xabi, like Tchouameni playing between the centre-backs,” he explained. “I have no problem playing wherever Xabi wants me to play, even if it’s in goal.”
Carvajal on his fitness
“After 9 months, I’m now ready to play again. I’m available. I feel very well, already in the rhythm of training with the group. Let’s see if I can be in the squad list tomorrow.”
Carvajal on his recovery
“Until it happens to you, you don’t realise how much it impacts you. It hit me at a more mature stage of my career. Thanks to my family and kids, I found relief. I faced it from day one, step by step.”
Carvajal on if he’s worried about returning to action
“I know myself and if they let me out on the field, I will go at 100% and I will not be afraid to put my leg in.”
Carvajal on Gonzalo García
“Of course if we have a striker with a lot of experience it would be a big help. Last season we lacked somebody in that role, but I have to say, Gonzalo García looks great. If Xabi wants him to play that role, then I expect him to help us succeed.”
Carvajal on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s arrival
“In every team there are signings, I take it as a personal challenge, I love to compete, that healthy competition makes the team better.”
Carvajal on Xabi Alonso’s change from teammate to coach
“His idea of the game, his way of being, of transmitting his ideas, is similar to what he was like as a player.”
